Sociology and the Stereotype of the Criminal

This is a highly intelligent but, to this reviewer, very irritating book which sets out to show that the picture of the criminal which even the social scientist has is a stereotype and that offenders are useful scapegoats which society needs. That many social scientists, criminologists or psychiatrists are middle-class and may make assumptions that are culture and class-determined cannot be denied.
